here goes......i am officially a recovering isolater. i never really did isolate, (at least not since ive lived in my house, on my own) i just craved my time alone. colette once asked me why i never went to those fancy drug rep suppers in the fancy restaurants out of town. we get education credits for it too. the thing is.......i went to 2 and the meal was great, but there were only a couple of 2 coworkers i enjoyed being with. then a couple other staff people began to go on a regular basis, and i KNEW i wouldnt be going. im old enough and wise enough to choose NOT to spend my time off the clock with people i dont care for. these are coworkers i get along with, and one of them makes me laugh quite regularly, but i dont wanna spend my free time with them. even if the food and the restaurant are great. plus, im still a smoker (of ciggies) and none of them were. thats a loooong ride to not smoke when youre cramped in a vehicle with people that can "irk" the crap outta ya. lol. i can easily go all night not smoking, but i really wanna smoke when im made aware (very clearly) that its not socially acceptable in this crowd. by the way.........i dont smoke all day long while at work. im too lazy to make the walk out to my car to smoke. i have no NEED during the day, at all. yeh, i know............if you can go 8 1/2 - 9 hrs a day, then why dont ya just quit? my daughter continually tells me that. i tell her to stop nagging me about quitting and give me "atta girls" for not smoking 8 1/2 - 9 hrs a day. my day of decision will come sooner or later. about a yr and a half ago i reconnected with a gal i went thru kindergarten, elementary school, high school, brownies, girl scouts, and she was even a bridesmaid in my first wedding. her name is janis, and shes an extremely independant gal. she never was a druggie/alchy, and shes a divorced gal (was married to an actor in calif) with a son whose a senior in high school in tipton. (our old hometown) shes the editor of an indiana newspaper, is a writer and has had several short stories published, and is seeking an appropriate publisher for her first novel. i, of course, have a copy of it. i really liked it, and not just because shes a friend. being the editor of a newspaper allows her many perks. first, she hears of lots of things going on all over the state that i would never even know about. and she gets to go for free, sometimes, if she does a written review for her newspaper. by the way......shes as cheap/frugal as i am. REALLY, she is. one of her perks is going to beef n boards, and then writing a review for the newspaper. its free advertisement for them. i could (would) never afford going to a place like that, but thanks to janis, we've seen several plays and had some really good meals. and of course, the company was devine.
we went to a CSI forinsics day at the indiana museum in indy. upon entering, we were given papers and suspects in a murder that they created for us to solve. it was an all day thingy, and we just went around to different places and floors within the museum and gathered clues. they also had real cops, lawyers, an expert on bugs and maggots (having to do with dead bodies), doctors, & morticians, and they spoke and answered our questions to help us come up with the correct murder suspect at the end of the day. way cool. and interesting.
we also went to a film festival somewhere here in indiana. it too, was an all day thing. very way cool. im a movie nut anyway. these were independant films that would never hit the theaters. also, do you remember 'harlo hickenlooper' and 'curly myers' from kids tv in our day? curly is from frankfort and harlo is from fairmount or thereabouts. janis knows them both and she gets invites to all of their appearances. in fact, harlo was being honored at the film festival we went to and he hung out with us for a while. at a tribute to harlo and curly, in frankfort last winter, me, suzi, and joshua went, and janis actually got on stage and did a musical/dance number with harlo. (at harlo's request)
last weekend, me, joshua (my 6 yr old grandson), aaron and his girlfriend, anne, and janis went to hartford city to the civil war reenactment. God was good to me by keeping the temperature down so i didnt get so pooped out. it was a really nice day all around. joshua is really into abe lincoln for some reason and gets books at the library all the time about him. and of course honest abe was there, walking around, and giving the gettysburg address and leading the battle on horse. the cannons were loud, the people were amazing. i have pictures of mark twain and a civil war doctor and all his amputated body parts from the battle field. (fake of course) lots of kettle cooking and old time foods. and of course....the tents that housed the many, many shops.
suzi is really into scrapbooking and she sometimes goes to 24 hour parties or all day ones on the weekends, and joshua comes and (as he calls it) does a "sleepover". we play, read, go shopping, and just hang out. ive been invited to go along on their next vacation as a free babysitter and only pay my airfare, food, and stuff i buy. they have a timeshare (they may have 2 different timeshares), so im hoping i will have a separate little appartment attached to theirs as we did when we went to taho a couple yrs ago. we're hashing out where we might want to go. i still want to return to the carribean. loved it down there, but we'll prob be going when the humidity would be killer for me. we've talked about england, italy, isreal.............all of which i really have no interest in visiting. again..........im a grown up, independant woman and i dont have to go on a vacation where i dont really want to go. id really like to go to canada, or alaska. crossing the ocean now-a-days just isnt my cup of tea. maybe my common sense is doing overtime, but hey. im not fearful, but why push the luck? lol!!!!
well, folks, im gonna close for now. i may send another installment of "the life and treasures of karyn", but for now, i gotta go. well, i guess you get the gist of all this. im just writing to let you know im doing better than quite well. life is being very good to me, and im enjoying the shit outta it.
