ahhhhh.....the holdays

howdy everyone! holiday greetings to you all. well, its that time of year again. the cold weather, scraping ice from the windshield, wandering around in those crazy stores looking for that perfect gift, and the holiday cheer.
personally, i dont mind the cold weather. dont care for the wind much....it messes up my hair,(my big hair keeps me closer to God) and makes my eyes water. im not real keen on the really cold weather because i dont have a garage and the scraping of windshields is a real bummer. i dont do a lot of scraping tho. a few yrs ago i found a product called "FIRE" and its in a bright red-orange bottle. its the best spray deicer ive ever used. it works great on everything except that 1/2 inch thick ice that we get in feb and march. tip: spray 4 parts white vinegar/1 part water onto your windshield before you turn your car off for the night (and its still warm) and it works like a teflon coating. it may freeze but itll come off in huge sheets. just a little commercial stuck in here. try both these things...they really work.
as for the holidays..........thanksgiving is next week and i have so much to be thankful for. my lil house that God provided for me, my kids, (suzi & aaron), including my precious grandson, joshua, my extended family being rusty and sweet anne, and the miricle grandchild (IVE determined its a girl) anne carries within. this child is a miricle because all of annes life shes been told by drs that she could never get pregnant. shes doing pretty well, but has the 'pukies' quite a bit. shes also got twins on both sides of her family, and from what ive been reading, women who get pregnant after 30 yrs old have a much stronger chance at having twins even w/o the hereditary thing. life is pretty darned good, and God is in His Heaven. suzi is having the dinner this year. she does a lot of step saving things to help de-stress thanksgiving day. she knows that most people dont want the dark meat so she bought several turkey breasts. she serves on nice sturdy paper plates and uses her good silveware and glasses. the clean up is next to nothing and everyone brings plastic bowls to take home leftovers. aint my kid clever?
christmas is right around the corner too. in years past i dreaded it. not the day, but all of the preparation for the day. oh my gawd..........the shopping in those insane stores with all those insane people. a few yrs ago i learned something that made the holidays pleasant, relaxing and enjoyable. i learned to have a lg box (i have a big laundry basket) in a room not used, and i pick up things i see thru out the yr that would be a great gift for this one or that. that helps spread out the money spending. thats a BIG ahhhhhhh! and last month i went thru all my "do-dad" catalogues and ordered by phone, everything else i wanted to get for gifts. whats a "do-dad" catalogue, you ask? lol! its those little gift catalogues that have you on their mailing list and you get them all the time. harriett carter, miles kimball.........that kind of catalogues. they have stuff in there that you might see and might want but not willing to spend the money because you dont NEED it. im a very practical person and like to give and recieve practical gifts. none of that knick-knacky crap that just gathers dust and sits around. lots of people think gift certificates are lazy and thoughtless. i think theyre grand. its that little frosting on the cake that lets you blow some money on something you absolutely dont need but would love to have.
now, for the decorating of the house. i dont do outside decor. never have. i drive around and admire what others have done. thats good enough for me. as for the inside...........im very minimalistic. i have two little 3 ft trees. one goes in my front room so it can greet people and be seen from the street. its decorated kinda fancy. lights, white and maroon poinsettias. gold garland and lots and lots of white lights. in my living room the tree decorations are gold garland, green/red/gold plaid ribbons, and again.........lots and lots of multi colored lights. i dont do bulbs, icicles, or any of that stuff. my tree skirts are lace in both rooms and i have a zillion candles that i use a lot at holiday time. i have a little white church that has snow, a bell in the steeple, and evergreens on it, and it winds up and plays 'oh holy night'. (my grandpa gave it to me before i was even in school) i also have a latch-hook christmas rug that lays in front of the TV. it was made for my mom years ago so it means something to me. to me, value is in my heart and my eye. the money value of anything just doesnt matter, because if i love it im never gonna get rid of it anyway, so who cares how much its worth? its already pricless to me. one more thing ive learned that makes the holidays less hassel.....i dont take the lights off my two little trees. theyre on really well and lots of them, just the way i like them and all i do is take off the garland and gently bag the trees in their own indivual lg trash sack and carefully carry each one down into my basement and sit them on a table.

gonna go for now. if i dont check in again till after the holidays, have a joyful and peaceful holiday season. i hope that some of the tips i shared here might help you de-stress your holidays and allow you to really get into the "spirit" of the season. remember.....JESUS is the reason for the season. lets choose to celebrate and not allow commercialization to take the joy out of it all.

God bless us all...........every one!!!
